Pet Grooming Q&A's Section
Q: How often should I be sharpening my blades?
A: The average time for a professional groomer doing 4-8 Dogs per day should have their blades sharpened every 4-6 weeks. Also, proper cleaning & oiling after every use can make blades last up to 3-4 months. Lastly, If you start to feel Dragging or Jamming then it's time to re-sharpen those edges.
![]() ![]() Q: Should I have my clipper serviced?
A: If you have not serviced your Oster® or andis® clippers in the last 3-6 months its time! Levers & Clipper Components are key to the performance of any clipper blade. If your lever is worn then full sweeping action does not occur, leaving your newly sharpened blade lacking its full cutting potential. Also worn latches or hinges that wear due to everyday on and off transitions with each other can lead to rattling blades that don't attach firmly or correct.
![]() ![]() Q: Can you sharpen or replace ceramic blades?
A: Yes we can. Be aware that you can only sharpen the ceramic cutter 4-8 times before replacement is needed. Also broken or cracked teeth can lead to poor cutting even after sharpening. Replacement Ceramic cutters can be purchased through Sharpies Sharpening for $9.00. Its' Sharpies recommendation to order ALL METAL blades due to their efficiency and longevity.
![]() Q: What Clipper blades are best for Professional Grooming?
A: We recommend groomers choose one of the two leading blade manufacturers. Oster® or andis® clipper blades have the best metal materials, components, longevity, & proper desired depth than any other blade on the market. By paying the few extra dollars up front will save you more money in the long run!
